Vandemoortele’s acquisition of Délifrance is a notable development in the European frozen bakery sector, bringing together two established businesses with complementary expertise and product ranges.
Strengthening Market Presence
Following the acquisition of Lizzi, Vandemoortele has now added Délifrance to its portfolio, further expanding its reach in frozen bakery.
Délifrance, a subsidiary of VIVESCIA Industries, produces high-quality frozen bakery products, operating 14 production sites with an annual turnover of €930 million. It supplies retailers, foodservice operators and artisan bakers across Europe and Asia.
Vandemoortele, a Belgian family-owned company, has 28 production sites and a turnover of €1.4 billion. With nearly 50 years in the bakery business, it provides a broad range of frozen products under various brands and private labels.
The combined business will have an estimated revenue of €2.4 billion and will offer an extensive range of bakery products, including viennoiseries, Danish pastries, artisanal bread, donuts, Italian savouries, and patisserie under brands such as Délifrance, Banquet d’Or, Doony’s, Lanterna, Acquaviva, and Lizzi.
What This Means for the Industry
The acquisition will allow for further product innovation, market expansion, and additional services for retail and foodservice partners. Industrial bakers can expect a broader product selection, improved supply chain capabilities, and enhanced customer support.
Leadership Perspectives
Jean Vandemoortele, Chairman of the Board, describes the acquisition as
“a strategic move with strong alignment in vision and values.”
VIVESCIA Chairman Christoph Büren views it as part of the group’s long-term transformation, while Yvon Guerin highlights the opportunities for
“growth, customer service improvements, and innovation.”
Délifrance CEO Robert O’Boyle emphasises
“building on shared expertise to support customers’ future development.”
Next Steps
The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. The integration of Délifrance into Vandemoortele’s operations will provide new opportunities for customers and partners in the frozen bakery sector.
