Scientific Award - Dr Christina Schubert honored for her research on phages

Dr. Christina Schubert from Berlin received the scientific award from the Association of German Large Bakeries for her dissertation at the University of Hohenheim.

The aim of the dissertation was to investigate a technology that could inactivate phages in order to eliminate their detrimental effect on the sensory properties of whey. Another aspect of her work was to further develop the basis for phage encapsulation.

In his laudatory speech, Tobias Schuhmacher, General Manager of the Association of German Large Bakeries, emphasised the special importance of the work, because in addition to the fundamental research on bacteriophages, it always kept an eye on implementation in the food system.

Tobias Schuhmacher, General Manager of the Association of German Large Bakeries, said:

You have made a valuable contribution to scientific progress and have also laid the foundation for a new idea: cereal biscuits as a transport vehicle for bacteriophages to modulate the human microbiota.

The award is presented annually at the Scientific Information Conference of the Berlin-Brandenburg Society for Cereal Research for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of food technology.
